Learning Disability Evaluation
Is Your Child Struggling Academically Or Acting Out In the Classroom?
Is your child struggling academically in school? Is your child demonstrating acting out behaviors in the classroom setting that leave you feeling confused? If your child struggles academically or experiences deficits in expressive language then these could be signs of a learning disability.
Learning Disability Evaluation
The first step in determining if your child has a learning disability begins with in-office testing.
We will first meet with parents or caregivers to discuss concerns, medical, educational and mental health history. We may also collect developmental and social history.
Next, we will meet with your child to complete assessment testing and evaluation. The evaluation could be as brief as 4 hours or as long as 2 days, depending on the pace at which your child is able to work, and if breaks are needed or your child has reached their capacity for the day.
Creating Future Success
Once the evaluation is complete, Brown Life Light Psychology’s evaluator will issue a written report with the findings and suggestions for future success. Typically, the results can be used to help the school create an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for your child. When requested, the evaluator will attend the IEP meetings to advocate for your child and help with the IEP team decision-making process.
On the other hand, if findings do not show that your child has a learning disability, then they will determine what other support or interventions may be available and appropriate to help your child be successful in school. (Example: Your child has been found to have ADHD or anxiety, the IEP team could create a 504 accommodation and allow your child more time with homework or test taking in a quiet room away from distractions).
